Completed (2012)

A 60-seat 200m2 Japanese Izakaya bar located in the grungy suburb of Collingwood. We are interested in the philosophies of Wabe Sabe present in the making and design of sake cups and flasks. Materials have been specially chosen to reflect the colours and patina of Japanese clay pottery. A timber house is inserted into the interior space which houses the kitchen. The intent is to have food being seen grilled and served through the window of the house. The overall mood of this space is created through the juxtaposition of delicate and rigid elements.
